To start growing, simply remove the lid, band ring, and net pot (with wick and plug) from the mason jar. Add 2 cups (16 oz) of water to the jar, then place the net pot and band ring back. Leave the green circle plug cover on the growth plug for up to 7 days or until the seeds germinate, as this helps keep the plug surface moist to aid germination.
Plant food is not included in this kit due to regulations, but you can purchase a recommended liquid plant food for herbs and vegetables on Amazon. Follow the instructions on the plant food packaging to properly fertilize your hydroponic kit.
When the water level drops below 8 oz (about 1/3 of the mason jar), simply add water to bring it back up to 16 oz (about 2/3 of the jar). There's no need to replace the water entirely.
Adequate light is essential for the plants to grow. If you have access to a windowsill, place the kit there to get sunlight. Otherwise, you can use LED plant-growing lights for 16 hours a day as a substitute for natural sunlight.
