Sprouting Instructions:
For a quart-sized jar, begin by placing 1 1/2 tablespoons of seeds inside the jar. Screw on the fine mesh sprouting lid and partially fill the jar through the sprout jar lids with warm, not hot, water. Swirl the water around to clean the seeds, then pour it out. Refill the jar with warm water, covering the seeds to a depth of about 3 times their own, and let them soak overnight, away from direct light. This initiates the germination process.
In the morning, drain the soak water. Find a location that is not exposed to direct sunlight and place the drained jar, propped at an angle, to allow any extra water to drain out. Turn the jar to spread out the seeds. Cover the jar with the sprout jar lids and a dishtowel, and leave it for 3 to 4 hours.
Rinse the sprouts with cool, fresh water 2 or 3 times each day until they are ready to eat or refrigerate. As the sprouts begin to shed their seed hulls, let the jar with the sprouting lid installed overflow with water, and the hulls will float out the top through the screen. Turn the jar to spread out the seeds each time you rinse.
Finally, pour the sprouts into a pan or sink of clean water. Skim off any remaining hulls that float to the surface, as the other hulls will sink to the bottom of the container. Gently shake off any excess moisture and drain the sprouts in a colander before packaging them.
